"Say a Woman's Name" (2010)
Solo Vocals (SSATTBB)
Interactive text painting of Austin Kleon’s blackout poem, “Say a Woman’s Name.” An expose of the idea that the legacy of monumental, influential and timeless women travels time. Similar to blackout poetry, the music is very limited; deep but succinct musical ideas ringing like bell tones at random intervals and locations as the names travel through time and space.
Aureole (2009)
Cello Solo
Conceived and composed around Easter as a meditation. The pitch content is derived from the natural overtone series of the cello (with a few alterations); the purpose is to create a very resonant color. The name refers to the halo effect I wished to portray/create and the bell-like clarity that should dominate this work.
